Survivor Information

We deceive ourselves when we
fancy that only weakness needs support.
Strength needs it far more.
-Madame Swetchine

Welcome. Founded in response to a profound loss, The Elizabeth R. Griffin Research Foundation, Inc. seeks not only to assist research in the prevention and treatment of zoonotic diseases, but also provide a network of support for victims and survivors.

In this section you will find…
· the times and places for regularly scheduled support meetings.
· a reference site for medical treatment options and new medical information.
· a forum to meet and interact with others who share in the painful experience of zoonotic disease.

Exposure
Medical Research is critical to our future health care and must be continued despite the tragic incidents that ultimately lead to the death of Beth Griffin in December of 1997. The desire of The Elizabeth R. Griffin Research Foundation, Inc. is to fund medical/ behavioral research that reduces the number of preventable exposures/accidents that occur within research facilities in the course of performing vital research using animals.

Thorough training of workers, safe working environments, accurate record keeping, and the wearing of proper protective gear such as goggles and leather gloves when handling the monkeys minimize exposure to the macaque-borne B virus. Risk of exposure is minimal, but positive exposure can be fatal.

For more information visit the exposure prevention section of our site.

The information on this site deals primarily with the macaque-borne B-virus and not to all zoonotic disease exposures. People who believe they have been exposed to other type zoonotic diseases should seek expert assistance with animal-specific experts. We will gladly assist in finding such persons using our professional contacts.
